Baking Pretzels and Other Shapes!

Ingredients:

3 T Warm Water, 1/2 t yeast, 1/2 cup flour, 1/2 t sugar, 2T grated chedar cheese, egg and coarse salt.

Directions:

Mix yeast and warm water. Add in flour, sugar, and cheese. Knead the dough in the shape like a pretzel or any other shape you like. Brush on egg yolk and sprinkle with salt. Bake at 425 degrees for 15 minutes. Enjoy!

Tip: If working with a group of children, set up stations with the directions written down on each station so the children can work on their own and really take ownership for their creations! This activity worked great with a group of kids ages 8 to 10.

7 Super Things Parents Can Do

1. Talk often with your children from the day they are born.

2. Hug them, hold them, and respond to their need and interests.

3. Listen carefully as your children communicate with you.

4. Read aloud to your children every day, even when they are babies. Play and sing with them often.

5. Say “yes” and “I love you” as much as you say “no” and “don’t.”

6. Ensure a safe, orderly, and predictable environment, wherever they are.

7. Set limits on their behavior and discipline them calmly, not harshly.

This information is from the Early Childhood-Head Start Task Force – Just thought it was worth sharing.

Magnets

Materials…

Printer, Scissors, Glue, Laminating paper (optional,) Velcro, magnets, metal paper clip, clothes pin, metal spoon, clothes pin, crayons, eraser and marbles.

Directions…

Click on the picture above to print out the first two pages. Laminate the pages if you wish. Next cut out the pictures and glue the Velcro behind them and on to the chart paper. Once the pieces are assembled, ask your child which object do they think are magnetic. Let them stick the pictures under the corresponding part on the chart. Then get a magnet and have your child experiment with each object. At the end, allow them to fix the chart if there are any changes they would like to make.

Have fun!

Firefighters (Tune: Old MacDonald)

Firefighters fight furious flames

with a fire hose.

Fire trucks race to the scene

as fast as they can go!

They rescue our freinds

and families, too,

Fighting fires

for me and you.

Firefighters fight furious flames

with a fire hose!

Directions:

Write the poem above on a large construction paper and hand on the wall. Read the poem to your child. Then ask your child to find and circle all the words that start with the letter f. Next ask them to find the letter f inside the words!

The object of this lesson is to find and recognize the letter f. You can expand the activity by looking for other objects around the house that start with the letter f. What starts with f? (finger, feather, father, flower, food, fan, funnel, fish, foam, frosting…) Your child can draw and make a picture of a firefighter or other things that begin with the letter f! The possibilities are endless! Have fun!

I see the wind (Tune: Hush Little Baby)

I see the wind
When the leaves dance by.
I see the wind
When the clothes wave “hi.”
I see the wind
When the trees bend low.
I see the wind
When the flags all blow.
I see the wind
When the kites fly high.
I see the wind
When the clouds float by.
I see the wind
When it blows my hair,
I see the wind
Most everywhere!
